Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! I say that as I’m listening to Pink Martini’s Holiday station and drinking Oregon Chai from a care package. It’s been a merry week, indeed!
Pre-pubescent World Cup champions
This week, I had the privilege of serving as the “official” photographer at Campamento La Hacienda. The second of its kind, this is a week-long day camp with kids from several Peace Corps volunteers’ schools. This time, it was all sixth graders from five Barranquilla public schools. La Hacienda has a huge campus–multiple fields, buildings and basketball courts to accommodate 80+ twelve-year-olds for a week of sports, team-building, crafts, leadership and health workshops and general fun!
The kids were organized into teams of about 10, and each team was named after one of the teams in next year’s World Cup. My kids were the Equipo de Chile! I got to follow them and the other teams through soccer, frisbee, dodgeball games, arts and crafts, workshops on exercise, leadership, conflict resolution and sex ed, and multiple practices of the team cheer, written and executed by each team. Thursday night, I stayed up to edit and produce an end-of-the-week video for camp. I think it was a fun way to close the week!
